Review:

The TerraTrike Tour is an excellent option for people with mobility challenges. This bike will get you moving and keep you moving. If you have trouble walking, aren’t steady on your feet, or have a progressive muscle weakening disorder the Tour is an excellent way to get you safely out and enjoying bike rides alone or with family and friends.

The chromoly frame is light, the shifting is smooth, and can be done while coasting, pedaling, or while stopped. You’ll love the breathable mesh seat which allows you to stay cool and move with your trike while also supporting your upper body. The seat angle and position are also adjustable so you can get the most comfort out of your ride. We tested the Tour over various terrains and on slight inclines and descents, and it performed well. The ability to easily adjust speeds and easily engage the hand brake when needed made this bike the perfect fit. The brakes were also simple to adjust for greater sensitivity, requiring less effort for riders with limited hand strength.

The shifter can be mounted on the right or left side if you happen to have grip strength issues in one hand or the other. Our testers found the Tour fun, comfortable, and a great way to continue enjoying outdoor activities, even with various levels of physical challenges. In fact, your doctor or physical therapist may even prescribe this as part of your ROM (Range of Motion) exercise programs, and as a result it could qualify as a medical tax write off (consult your tax professional).

The TerraTrike Tour is one of the most affordable recumbent trikes we’ve seen and even for those with more limited abilities there is the TerraTrike Tandem Rover (stay tuned for that review coming Summer, 2013)
